Lila Bachelder Obituary
1937 ~ 2013
Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Lila Rae Johnson Stuart Bachelder, passed quietly away in the early morning of Saturday, November 23, 2013.
Born to Harvey and Norma Johnson on January 5, 1937 in Burley, Idaho, she was full of love and vivacity from the start. She grew up in Boise where she received her schooling and there developed a love for singing that blossomed throughout her life. She went on to earn her undergraduate degree in vocal performance from the University of Utah and received her masters and doctorate degrees from Indiana University. Lila taught vocal performance for many years at the University of Redlands, Stanford University, Indiana University, Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and Brigham Young University, from which she retired in 2002. She was well loved by her many students, who saw her as a friend, mentor, and mother.
While teaching at BYU she met the love of her life, Daniel Fred Bachelder. They married in the Provo, Utah Temple on December 10, 1992 and have shared a marvelous, joy-filled marriage for the last twenty years that will continue through the eternities.
She was the mother of five wonderful children: Jeri Stuart, Bob Stuart, John Stuart, Valerie Blake, and Matt Stuart, and was caring for and loving her family to the very last. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband, her sisters Zenda Crandall and Marta Lake, her children, 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The Bachelder family also share in the deep loss of their dear Lila.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the LDS chapel, 303 W. 3700 N., Provo, Utah. Viewing from 8-9:30am, service at 10:00am. Interment at East Lawn Memorial Hills, Provo, Utah.
