Longin "Leonard" Loncyzna Obituary
1915 ~ 2012
Longin "Leonard" Lonczyna, 97, of South Jordan, Utah, passed away at home with his wife and children by his side, from causes incident to old age on November 15, 2012. He was born on April 1, 1915 to Olga Rychwika and Vasail Lonczyna in Chicago, Illinois. He later spent his youth in the Ukraine. He served in the Polish Army, where he was wounded in a conflict. He immigrated back to the United States in 1938 ending up in Los Angeles, CA, where he met his sweetheart of 71 years, Leona Nazer. He served in the United States Army during the last months of WWII. He spent his career in the grocery industry, serving as store director of several stores in California. At retirement Leonard moved to beautiful Midway, UT, where he was able to do what he loved most-fish. While in Midway, he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and a year later was sealed to his wife and family. He served a mission with his wife at the Family History Center in 1994. He enjoyed hosting the Ukrainian Olympic Luge Team at his Midway home during the 2002 Winter Olympics and serving as a volunteer for the Para-Olympics. For the last 8 years he and Leona have resided in South Jordan, UT. He loved his family and was always proud of their accomplishments. To the last he loved to attend family events.
He is survived by his wife Leona, and his four children; Patricia Lyman, W. Jordan; Longin "Lonnie" (Marsha) Lonczyna, Jr., W. Jordan; Phillip (Peggy) Lonczyna, Bend, OR; and Becky (Lance) Hansen, S. Jordan; as well as 19 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 28 great-great grandchildren. The family would like to thank all the kind medical staffs and CNS Hospice for providing care and comfort during his last days.
A viewing will be held Friday, Nov. 23rd from 6:00-8:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 1007 W. South Jordan Pkwy. (10600 S) S. Jordan, UT. Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 24th at 10:00 am with a viewing 1 hour prior at the South Jordan River 3rd Ward Chapel; 1540 W. 10400 S., South Jordan, UT. Interment will follow at the Midway Cemetery, 600 W. 500 S. Midway, UT at approximately 12:30 pm. Online condolences may be shared at www.jenkins-soffe.com
