Loyal Ezra Kunz, 88, of Sandy, Utah left this earthly plain to join the angels and his predecessors, father Ezra Louie Kunz, mother Vilda Dustin Kunz, son David Loyal Kunz, daughter-in-law LuAnn, granddaughter Marcie, and 6 of his siblings, on March 4, 2014. He was born in Wabuska, Nevada on January 26, 1926 to Ezra Louie Kunz and Vilda Dustin Kunz. He was the 7th of 8 children.
He is survived by his brother Marlon (Eddie) Kunz. He is also survived by his seven children, Vickie Allred (Evan), Rebecca Bonner (Larry), Brenda Forbes (Raymond), Janiel Eldredge (Stephen), Neal Kunz (Loretta), Todd Kunz (Ana), Britt Hawker (Craig), 22 grandchildren, and 57 great grandchildren.
He was called to serve in the United States Navy during World War II as a gunner aboard merchant vessels. Loyal became engaged to Frances Draney prior to his departure in July of 1943. They married when he came home on leave March 18, 1944. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in January 7, 1947.
Loyal was a body and fender mechanic and owned his own business for many years. He served many positions in the LDS Church and was a project clerk for building the Sandy 6th Ward Chapel. He built the home his family was raised in on a basement house in Sandy, Utah. This union dissolved during difficult financial times and he became a truck driver and moved to Phoenix, Arizona. He met and married his second wife Alice Baker, later divorced and then married Betty June Kunz later divorced.
He spent the last 6 years of his life in the loving care of his youngest daughter Britt. He will be missed by his family who loved and cherished their time with him.
There will be a viewing Friday, March 7, from 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Midvale, UT. A family viewing will be held Saturday, March 8, at 10:00 a.m. at the Mount Jordan 4th Ward located at 235 East 9800 South, Sandy, UT.
