Neil Hal Duke passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2014, after a short illness, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Heber City, Utah on June 3, 1931. He married Nelda Casper on April 1, 1954 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Neil served in the US Army during the Korean War as a Military Policeman. He worked in the mines for most of his life in both Park City and Wyoming Trona mines. He was very active in the LDS Church serving in many capacities, including Gospel Doctrine Teacher, High Councilman, and Bishop. He and his wife, Nelda, served an LDS Mission in West Africa where several young people were named after him. Neil enjoyed making Christmas licorice and caramels that his friends and neighbors enjoyed. He had a great sense of humor and kept everyone entertained. He had a great love for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and his country.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Nelda; son, David; two daughters: Gayla (Kevin) DiStefano, Wendy (Kipp) Bangerter; daughter-in-law, Laurie (Paul, deceased) Duke; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; brother, Larry B. (Joan) Duke; and sister-in-law, Eleanor Duke. He is preceded in death by his parents, Syemour and Mary Ann Duke; brother, Robert Duke; sisters: Dortha (Bert) Dayton, Bernice (Bill) Price, Lois (Ray) Wright, and Betty (Max) North.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2014 - 11:00 AM in the Daniel LDS 1st Ward, 2330 South Daniel Road, Heber City, Utah. Viewings will be on Tuesday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 9:30 - 10:30 AM, BOTH at the LDS Church. Interment will follow the services in the Heber City Cemetery with military honors.
