Ruth Holston Stucki|
June 21, 1921 ~ February 18, 2014
Our dear mother and matriarch, Ruth Holston Stucki, passed away on February 18, 2014 at the age of 92. Ruth was born on June 21, 1921 in Baltimore, Maryland to Howard Harrison Holston and Ellen Carrie Cummings Holston. Ruth grew up during the Great Depression in the Highland town area of East Baltimore near the birthplace of Babe Ruth and Patterson Park. Ruth attended Public Elementary School #215, Hampstead Jr. High, and Eastern High, eventually graduating from Baltimore City College Preparatory School in 1941 after dropping out of school for two years to care for her mother who had been hit by a drunk driver while walking across the street.
Ruth converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at the age of 17 and served as a full time missionary in the Hawaiian Mission from February 1950 to November 1951. Three days after returning from missionary service Ruth met Alfred Bleak Stucki from St. George, Utah who was in Army Counter Intelligence training at Fort Holabird, Maryland. Following a six month courtship they were sealed in the St. George, Utah Temple on June 4, 1952.
Ruth and Alfred settled in Hurricane, Utah where Alfred taught LDS Seminary and they raised six children. Ruth eventually graduated from Southern Utah State College with a Bachelor of Arts degree and Utah State University with a Master of Education degree and became a school teacher.
In addition to her family, Mom's other passions were music, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, and family history. Ruth was ward organist to the age of 91 at which time she became "ward organist emeritus".
Mom, we are grateful to you for your love, devotion and enduring example.
Ruth is survived by her six children: Howard (Joni) Stucki, Bountiful, Utah; Jared (Lori) Stucki, Lehi, Utah; Iona (Les) Syphus, St. George, Utah; Alfred (Susan) Stucki, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; John Stucki, Hurricane, Utah and Curtis (Holly) Stucki, American Fork, Utah; 25 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred and her granddaughter, Carrie Stucki.
