1926 ~ 2014|
Sharell, born July 31, 1926 in Saint Johns, AZ to Hugh and Nellie Magnolia Nielsen Richey, was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She passed away on January 31, 2014 alongside her beloved husband of 31 years in Midvale, UT.
Howard O. Durrant and Sharell were civilly married on August 6, 1982 and sealed in the LDS Jordan River Temple on February 14, 1986.
Sharell was an elementary school teacher and loved all of her children. She obtained a BA in Education at Arizona State College in 1948. In 1983 she graduated with a Masters in Education from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, UT. She believed that education was incredibly important and took great pride in her achievements and the achievements of all of her students. Sharell taught in both Mesa, Arizona and Sandy, Utah where she retired.
Sharell also had a great love for music. She played the piano and organ. She would sing and wasn't afraid to sing in front of others. She was a member of the LDS Church and played at the Jordan River Temple as well as for her ward whenever she was asked. A few other passions of hers were her garden in which she had many beautiful roses, traveling anywhere the car would take her and fishing. Sharell loved her granddaughters and husband with all of her heart as they loved her back. Her only daughter passed away in 2006 of cancer and because family was so important to her she made sure that her granddaughters were shown even more love than before. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
Sharell is survived by her siblings: Philip, Milford (Doreen), Dale (Nancy) and LaVina (Henry). Granddaughters: Melissa (Josh) and Amber. Sharell is preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Nellie. Siblings: Dean, Maleen, Anna and Louise. Daughter: Claudia.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Midvalley 1st Ward, 1050 E. Chapel Hill Drive (7404 S.) in Midvale, UT. A viewing will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, and Saturday at the church prior to services from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
