Walton Roper Farmer Obituary
1921 ~ 2013
Walton Roper Farmer, age 92, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2013 at his home in American Fork surrounded by his loved ones. He was born November 17, 1921 in Preston, Idaho to Erastus LeRoy and Hattie Roper Farmer. He married Ruth Van Leuven on November 22, 1949 in Salt Lake City, UT, LDS Temple.
Following his graduation from Fairfield High School, in 1942 he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific until the end of WWII. He also served a mission for the LDS church in the Eastern States Mission, where he met his wife, Ruth. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1951 and was a self-made entrepreneur. Walt loved spending time with his family and friends, fishing, and taking his grandchildren and great grandchildren for ice cream.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, his children: Dale (Christy) Farmer, Scott ( Susan) Farmer, Jo Ellen (Jeffrey) Shorter, Paul (Michelle) Farmer, Richard (Susan) Farmer, Lisa (Kelly) Savage, and son-in-law, James Duffin, 28 grandchildren , 30 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Grant and Glenn Farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Linda, 3 sisters, and a brother.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 14th at 11:00 a.m. in the American Fork 26th Ward, 975 North 60 East. Friends may call Friday, December 13th from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork and Saturday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
