Wayne H. Johnson
1915 - 2013
Our dear father, Wayne Henrichsen Johnson peacefully passed away May 1, 2013 in his home at the age of 97. He was the sixth of eight children born to Elmer and Amelia Henrichsen Johnson and was the last surviving member of his family. He grew up in Salt Lake City. He graduated from East High School and University of Utah.
He was married to Dorothy Gordon for 65 years, and has missed her these past 4 years. They were the parents of Susan (George) Jarvis, Arthur (Laurie) Johnson, Lynda (Dick) Lefler, Ruth Wilcox, and Dale (Linda) Johnson. They have 14 Grandchildren, 36 Great-Grandchildren and two Great, Great Grandchildren.
Wayne was a quiet man of service: serving his Country, his Church and his family. He began his military service in the ROTC at East High School, continuing at University of Utah. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil 1939-1941. Returned to the US, received his 1st Lt. Rank, served in Italy during World War II, and completed his Military career service as a Lt. Col. He has been in 48 of the 50 states in the US and many places throughout Europe and Korea.
Wherever he or his family moved the Church was the first place we looked for. He served in many positions within the Church, always as a Home Teacher. He and mom served as Temple workers at the Jordan River Baptistery.
He was a well-educated man with a great sense of humor and a memory like the encyclopedia. He could still name every school teacher he had and the corresponding girlfriend for each grade from Kindergarten through College. He filled our home with great music, art, literature, books, laughter and a love of travel. He had a special fondness for trains. He was a member of the Utah Railroad Club. He also enjoyed the old time movies complete with organ music.
He was the best Dad, the favorite Uncle and the most patience man, never getting angry with childish mistakes and dispensing learning as easily as sharing his favorite chocolates.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the Holladay 18th Ward, 2625 East Milo Way (4910 South), Holladay, Utah. I work with his daughter Lynda. I love listening to her stories about her parents. I will miss overhearing her make her morning call to her dad everyday, the way she ended every call with I love you Dad. What a special bond the two of them share.

I'll always remember my Uncle Wayne as a fun, humorous, witty relative, always quick with a funny remark. I'll miss his presence but I'll always keep a special place in my heart and mind for him.

Dear Johnson Family, We lived next door to Wayne and Dorothy on Wander Circle for some 30 years, and got to know them well. They were both great neighbors and wonderful people. Dorothy had a good sense of humor and was the talkative one, and, yes, Wayne was usually quiet. It was evident in speaking with them that they both loved their family very much. Our sympathy and prayers go out to all of you. May Wayne rest in peace now that he is reunited with Dorothy.
