William Dewey Farnsworth Obituary
1921 ~ 2014
William Dewey Farnsworth passed away May 17, 2014 at the Courtyard at Jamestown Assisted Living Center in Provo surrounded by his family. Bill was born April 10, 1921, in Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico to William Jefferson and Mary Margaret McGinty Farnsworth. After graduating from El Paso High School in Texas, he moved to Los Angeles where he joined the Navy. He became a Naval Aviator and contributed to the war effort during World War II and Korea. At UCLA he met and fell in love with Glenona Robison. They were sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple on June 21, 1948. He retired in 1970 as a Navy Captain after 27 years of military service. He moved his family to Provo, Utah where he worked at BYU for 13 years in Media Services, Motion Picture Studio and KBYU. His life was one of service to the LDS Church, including as Bishop of the Norfolk Virginia Ward and twice as a Branch President at the Provo MTC. Throughout his adult life, he was a wise mentor and father to so many. Perhaps one of his greatest contributions was to write his autobiography, a book entitled The First Seventy Years. For 44 years, Bill and his family lived in the Edgemont 8th Ward where they enjoyed the love and support of loyal friends and neighbors.
Bill is survived by a sister, Mary Kleinman; two brothers, Albert and Jack; nine children, Joy (Paul) Moody, Diane Teichert, Nancy (Charles) Davis, Brad (Debbie) Farnsworth, Raelene (David) Card, Jana (Corey) Westbrook, Karen (Jeff) Murphy; Yvonne (Wayne) Hubert and Melinda (Brian) Larson; 43 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his eternal companion, Glenona, brothers Frank, Earl and Bob, sister Betty Roach, grandson Troy Andersen and great-granddaughter Kylee Kenyon, sons-in-law Timothy Andersen and Conrad Teichert.
