Crowe Cindy E. Wentzel Crowe, age 50, loving wife and mother, passed away July 12, 2014. Resident of Westerville, OH for 25 years. Cindy was born in Greensburg, IN on November 23, 1963 to Robert and Evelyn Wentzel. Cindy lived every day of her life to the fullest even during her courageous battle against ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). For over a year Cindy led the crusade to fight ALS and participated in important research studies. Crowe-Wentzel "Winning the ALS Fight" was established in 2013 to help patients and their families find a cure for this horrible disease. Cindy was a passionate and strong advocate of public education. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Indiana State University. As a certified Teacher in K-8 Special Reading Instruction she got involved with the Remediation Program in Reading. Cindy served on the Westerville Board of Education for 14 years, was a delegate of the Ohio School Board Association and President of the Central Ohio School Board Association. She also served on the Education Committee for the Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce and has been involved in a number of community service organizations including Westerville Education Challenge (sustains Challenge Day which promotes acceptance and anti-bullying), Ohio Reads, Character Education, Westerville Education Foundation, Westerville Parent Council, Westerville Alumni Association, Westerville Parks Foundation Committee, Kids Voting USA, Read Across America and the Westerville Rotary Club. During her tenure as a Board Member over the 14 years she was most proud of the opportunity to share in the celebration of educational achievement and shake the hands of approximately 20,000 Westerville graduates. Cindy is survived by Alan, her husband of 29 years; sons, Brandon and Tyler; brothers, Dan Wentzel (Molly), Sam Wentzel (Vickie), Mark Wentzel (Mary); sister, Linda Jones; father-in-law, Leon Crowe; mother-in-law, Becky Crowe; brother-in-law, Tom Crowe (Carol); sisters-in-law, Susan Kranz (Greg), Karen Crowe; 17 nieces and nephews, 24 great nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. Preceded in death by parents Robert and Evelyn Wentzel, brother-in-law Dennis Crowe. There will be a memorial service at 10 a.m. on July 19, 2014 at Heritage Christian Church, 7413 Maxtown Road, Westerville, OH 43082. There will be a celebration of Cindy's life immediately following.
