MERRITT Croft S. Merritt, age 86, passed away November 7, 2012 in Lancaster, Ohio. Croft was born on August 18, 1926 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Agnes and Lester Merritt. Croft Graduated from Ohio State University with a master's degree in Industrial Engineering. He served his country proudly in WW II, retiring from the Naval Reserve as a Captain. He was a member of the American Legion, Post #276. He was the chairman of the American Legion Department of Ohio Baseball Commission and past President of Buckeye Boys State. Croft will be remembered for his great sense of humor, love of sports and compassion for others. Croft is survived by his granddaughters, Samantha (Eric) Sammet of Florida and Taylor Merritt of Lancaster; daughter-in-law, Karen Merritt; and great-grandson, Zackary Sammet. In addition to his parents, Croft was preceded in death by his wife Helen Merritt and son Sam Merritt. Service will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 4-5 p.m. at EVANS FUNERAL HOME, 4171 Livingston Ave. American Legion Chaplin, officiating. Interment Wednesday 2 p.m., Dayton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to Buckeye Boys State, American Legion Department of Ohio in Croft's memory.
