Paige David Lester Paige, age 74, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014 after a 20 year battle with cancer. Born to Searcy Lee Valentine and Ernest Paige in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, David moved with his family to Cleveland, Ohio at age 15. He attended Cleveland East Technical High School, where he was the 1959 state pole vault and mile relay champion, and later graduated from The Ohio State University where he participated on the Track and Field team and was the captain his senior year. David Paige worked in the Columbus City Schools for many years, and retired in 2005 after serving as a middle school and high school principal. He also started his own company, Aluminum Recycling, an entrepreneurial venture he enjoyed for over a decade. His retirement years were spent golfing and working on several patents, one of which was his "PAIGE PUTTER". He pledged the Omega Psi Phi fraternity while in college and he continued to be an active member until his death. David leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Ruth Paige; four children, Julia Paige Spangler (Dan) of Half Moon Bay, CA, Sophia Paige Feemster (Jeff), Alia Paige (Charles) and David Paige (Daisy), all of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren, David Lester Paige, III, Paige Ruth Feemster, Luca David Spangler, Stella Paige Spangler and Noah Daniel Spangler; sister, Beatty Paige Johnson of Cleveland, OH; and a host of other relatives and dear friends. Memorial Celebration 4 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Franklin Park Conservatory, Palm House, 1777 E. Broad Street.
