Serra Elvira M. Serra, 80--something, of Worthington, died peacefully at Willow Brooke Christian Home Saturday, July 6, 2013. Elvira was born February 6 sometime in the 20th century in Waterbury, Ct. where she graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School. Elvira married her beloved husband Ralph in 1946 and they moved to Columbus so he could attend The Ohio State University. She and Ralph made Columbus their home for the rest of their lives. Elvira is preceded in death by her husband Ralph, her parents Carlo and Grace Mucci, her brothers Julio, Louis and Joseph, sisters Agnes and Sandra. She is survived by her son Carl (Paula) Serra; daughter, Serena Serra; grandsons, Evan Serra and Ben Kehoe; step grandson, Tony (Annastasia) Dupler; and great grandsons, Thomas and Andrew Dupler; special cousin, Irma DiNapoli; special nephew and nieces from her sister Agnes Albino-Pat, Judy, Barbara and Grace. Elvira has been involved in many charitable and social endeavors throughout the years including the , Columbus International Program, the Buckeye State Harmonica Club where she served as its secretary for many years, and Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church where she was a founding member of the parish and was recently honored in a special ceremony for her years of service caring for the church linens. Always creative and energetic, Elvira excelled at anything she tried to do. Over the years she won many ribbons at The Ohio State Fair for her clothing designs and her culinary skills. In her later years she decided to start growing a variety of Hostas in her garden and won many ribbons for those as well. Her family dinners were always a treat and will be remembered fondly by all. Anyone who was lucky enough to get them, will miss her wonderful Christmas cookies and the Serra Family Secret Recipe Cake that she baked every year. She was famous for the white streak in her hair, her graciousness, and her willingness to help anyone in need. Calling hours will be at the RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St. in Worthington, Thursday July 11, from 3-7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday July 12 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 20 E. Dominion Blvd. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery.
