Fred Kouski Obituary
KOUSKI Fred Kouski, age 62, passed away on December 31, 2012 in Columbus, Ohio. Born in Crestline, Ohio and raised in Brookside, Ohio, Fred attended Bridgeport High School. He continued his education at Ohio University with a B.S. in Art Education, at The Ohio State University, with a Masters in Art Education with Special Education emphasis, and with many hours beyond in Education Administration and Art History. A retired teacher and administrator from Columbus Public Schools, Fred also taught at the Columbus College of Art and Design, and volunteered his skills at Grant Medical Center and Riverside Methodist Hospital. A lifelong learner, Fred found a special comfort in the all-engaging and rewarding environment that The Ohio State University provides. His world travels anchored by his fondness for New York City and London, Fred had a deep appreciation for meeting new faces and cultures. Fred cultivated his passion for art through books, innumerable museum visits, and his support of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art. He was a supporter of The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City. He sponsored children in India for many years. He was an active member of the Republican Party. Fred enjoyed a wealth of friendships, including those fostered most recently through the Columbus, Ohio Prime Timers. Preceded in death by his partner Michael Gorczyca, and by parents John and Dora Kouski, and his beloved cats Sable and Tommy. He is survived by brothers, Thomas and John Kouski; his nephew and nieces; his special aunt, Helen Kouski; and many friends, especially Joyce and Gary Senter and family. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Our Lady of Victory in Marble Cliff. Msgr. Romano Ciotola, Celebrant. Interment of cremated remains will be held at a later date. Fred taught us how to live and die gracefully. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kobacker House c/o OhioHealth, 180 E.
