Gertrud Relle Obituary
Relle Gertrud Relle, 93, passed away on March 20, 2013 at her home. She was born in Karlsruhe, Germany on December 2, 1919. She is preceded in death by her husband Ferenc and her brother Artur Tubach. She was educated in vocal music and theater arts, and was certified (Buehnenreife) as theatre-ready. She was employed as an opera singer (coloratura soprano) in "chorus with solo" at the Muhlhausen/Alsace Municipal Theatre/Opera House. She married Ferenc in 1946 with whom she was married 64 years. Later, through the sponsorship of Brookwood Presbyterian Church, they immigrated with their son to the U.S. in 1951. Gertrud sang for many functions with various groups such as the Germania Trio and Vaud-Villities. She was a charter member of the Columbus Symphony Chorus. For many years, she sang the Star Spangled Banner at the Central Ohio United Nations Festival (now known as the International Festival). For 56 years she sang with the Damenchor of the Columbus Maennerchor. This group will perform Friday during visitation hours at 2:30 p.m. She was a longtime member of Civitan International, and volunteered for Special Olympics at the local, state and international levels. Gertrud is survived by children, Ferenc M. (Candace) Relle, Jr. of Wooster, OH, Ava (Mike) Gegenheimer, Dr. Attila T. (Kim) Relle, all of Upper Arlington, OH; grandchildren, Monica (Amos) Wright, of Bath, ME; Dr. Ferenc Nicholas (Rachel) Relle, of Wooster, Anneliese (of Chicago), Gabriella, and Brigitta Gegenheimer, Ilona Relle, all from Upper Arlington; great grandchildren, Declan and Frida Wright, Kalie, Calen and Emmett Relle; her sister, Eugenie Carr, of Tempe, AZ; Her sisters-in-law, Anne Relle of Cary, NC and Eva Relle, of Gyor Hungary; niece Maureen Schandert; nephews Brian and Paul Relle; and a host of family and friends here and in Germany and Hungary. Family will receive friends on Friday, March 29, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd. Columbus, OH 43221. Funeral Service will be on Saturday, March 30 at 10 a.m. at Brookwood Presbyterian Church, 2685 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, OH 43209 where visitation will be 9-10 a.m. prior to service.
