VANDERGRIFT Helen V. Vandergrift, age 86, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on November 26, 2012. She was born on January 24, 1926 in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, the daughter of Virginia Pagel and Harry Miller. Helen was an Assistant Professor Emeritus at The Ohio State University College of Nursing. A graduate of Case Western Reserve University, Saint Louis University and a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Mercy School of Nursing, Detroit, Michigan, she also spent time as a nurse at Hines Veterans Hospital post World War ll. Throughout her career, Helen participated in many experimental nursing courses and worked in varied disciplines. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society and was elected to Sigma Theta Tau National Nursing Society. She was an enthusiastic supporter of Affirmative Action and the Women's Rights Movement. She is survived by her husband, Robert; sister, Marion Lamb of Tucson, Arizona and her children; daughter, Anne; and daughter, Mary and her husband, Pedro; and three grandchildren, Pedro, Marissa and Antonio Ortiz. Family will receive friends Thursday, November 29, 2012 , from 6-8 p.m. at THE JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE, 1177 W. Fifth Avenue, Columbus. Her funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2012 at Our Lady of Peace Parish, 20 E. Dominion Blvd. at N. High St. Memorial contributions may be made to the College of Nursing at OSU in her name.
