Herbert E. Bean Obituary
Bean, M.D. Herbert E. Bean, M.D., passed away on Friday, August 16, 2013 under the loving care of Gentiva Hospice, while in residence at Emeralds Crossing. He was born February 23, 1929 in Westerville to the late Jesse and Bernice Bean. A veteran of the United States Navy, Dr. Bean proudly served as a Lieutenant JG in the U.S. Medical Corps. A Valedictorian with Westerville High School, Class of 1947. Dr. Bean graduated from Otterbein College, Class of 1950, where he was a Charter Member of the Otterbein Honor Society and Torch and Key. He went on to attend Medical School at The Ohio State University from 1951-1955. He completed his residency in Anesthesiology with OSU. During his medical practice as an Anesthesiologist, he served as President of the Columbus Society of Anesthesiologists (1964-1965), Chief of the Anesthesiology Department at Riverside Methodist Hospital (1976-1979) and was the First Medical Director of the Riverside Ambulatory Surgery Center (1978-1983). He was also the charter member of the Westerville Kiwanis Club and a Life Member of the Upper Arlington Civic Association. Memberships include: the Academy of Medicine of Columbus and Franklin County, Ohio State Medical Association; Ohio State Anesthesiologists, American Society of Anesthesiology, and Internat Anesthesia Research Society. He is survived by his loving family: devoted wife, Lois, whom he married in April 14, 1956; their three children, Jayne (Constantine) Stack, Barbara (Paul) Rockwell and James (Rose) Bean; grandchildren, Erin, Sam and Tom Stack, Jake and Brittney Rockwell, Jamie and Molly Bean; sister-in-law, Margaret Bean. He is preceded in death by his brother Harry Bean and sister Janice Hahn. Family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road in Upper Arlington, where his Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2014. Entombment to follow at Kingwood Memorial Park.
