James C. Claggett Obituary
Claggett James C. Claggett, age 79, of Grove City, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2014. He was born April 29, 1934, and is survived by his loving wife of more than 57 years, Joann; his son, Jim and daughter-in-law, Norma; his daughter, Jan and son-in-law, Henry; and his grandsons, Jonathan, Jacob and Ian. Jim and Joann met while they attended Springfield High School and were married just a few months before Jim graduated from Wittenberg University in 1956. During high school and college, Jim played football, primarily on the offensive line as a guard. Upon graduation, Jim became a high school teacher and football coach, teaching and coaching at Linden McKinley and Brookhaven High Schools. He later taught driver's education throughout the Columbus Public Schools and ended his educational career as a guidance counselor at Whetstone High School. Early in his teaching career, he completed a master's degree in education at The Ohio State University. A fan of Ohio State athletics, Jim worked as an usher, portal chief and deck supervisor at OSU home football games for more than 40 years. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing golf. Jim was a loving husband and father who made his wife and children the priorities in his life. He encouraged his children to aim high, be curious, play sports, respect others and appreciate the world around them. His family will forever be grateful for the guidance he offered, the support he provided, and the love he shared. Family will welcome friends 2-5 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 2014 at SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway, Grove City. Funeral Service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday (additional visiting from 10-11 a.m.) at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3220 Columbus St., Grove City. Pastor Scott Ness, officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of James Claggett to The Wittenberg Fund, Wittenberg University, P.O. Box 720, Springfield, OH 45501-0720.
