MITCHELL Jay Philip Mitchell was born in Cadiz, OH on September 11, 1921, and died on October 31, 2012 in Columbus, OH. Jay graduated from Cadiz High School in 1939 and then went on to receive a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering at Ohio State University in 1953. He worked at the Ohio State Department of Welding Engineering for more than 10 years and at Battelle Memorial Institute for more than 20 years. During his career, he was an accomplished engineer working in many disciplines, including development of an X-ray system and underwater cameras, and he was awarded patents for his work. One of his greatest enjoyments was spending time at his portion of the family farm in Harrison County where he had been working on building his own house in recent years. Jay is survived by his wife, Jean Mitchell; son, Joseph Mitchell; daughter-in-law, Evelynn Mitchell; and granddaughter, Kayla Mitchell. Services will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 1735 Bethel Rd, Columbus, OH at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 7, 2012, with calling 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor John Watson officiating. Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Cadiz, OH on November 8, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to Bethel Presbyterian Church.
