John T. Kady Obituary
Kady John T. Kady, a former United Press International reporter, bureau chief, and vice president, died of a heart attack in Columbus, Ohio, on August 4, 2013. He was 79. Mr. Kady's career with UPI spanned 35 years, including assignments in Charleston, WV, Baltimore, MD, Louisville, KY, and Columbus. Mr. Kady was also the author of two books, "A Sentry's Saga," and "A Reporter's Notebook: Kennedy to Kent State," and wrote articles for "BloodHorse Magazine" until the time of his death. Mr. Kady was born September 2, 1933, in Wheeling, and spend his early years in McMechen, Sherrard and Glen Dale, graduating from Union High School in 1951. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955, on Okinawa as a member of the Air Police Canine Corps and as an AP in England. Mr. Kady graduated from West Virginia University in 1959 with a degree in journalism and immediately embarked on his career with UPI. During his reporting career, he covered many of the historical moments and significant sporting events of his time, which included covering Buckeye Football. He was a member of Moose Lodge #11 and the Golden Moose Club, K of C, Writers Guild of Columbus, VFW. Mr. Kady is survived by his wife of 39 years, Patricia (Silver), formerly of Moundsville. He was previously married to Joyce Beveridge, who passed away in early 2013. Mr. Kady is also survived by daughter, Jennifer Davis and husband, Bud; daughter, Gretchen McClincy and husband, Tim; and step son, Dana Murdock, all of Columbus; and stepdaughter, Melanie Murdock of Powhatan Point. Mr. Kady was the proud grandfather of eight, and one great granddaughter. He is also survived by brothers, T.F., Marty, Jim and Kevin. He was preceded in death by his brother David in 2004. Mr. Kady was the son of former Moundsville High School Assistant Principal John J. Kady and wife Virginia, former residents of Glen Dale. A Memorial Mass will be held at 7 p.m. August 29, 2013 followed by a reception at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 2364 W. Mound St., Columbus, OH. Mr. Kady, a lifelong horse racing fan requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, which is dedicated to the rescue and retirement of aged race horses, at PO Box 834, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866, or at www.trfinc.org.
