COHEN Joseph A. Cohen, age 86, passed away on December 6, 2012. Preceded in death by his parents Isidor and Clara Cohen, step-mother Anna, sister Rebecca Sherman and brother Samuel Cohen. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis; daughters, Diane (Dr. Robert) Newman, Sandra (Terry) Silver and Beverly (Bruce) Klein; sister, Marion (Fred) Miller; grandchildren, Julie (Gregg) Goldin, Matthew Newman, Lauren (Michael) Glazer, Gregg Silver, Kevin Silver, Benjamin Klein and Jonathan Klein; great-grandchildren, Ari and Talia Goldin. Joe was born on May 3, 1926 in Hartford, CT and was raised in Boston, MA. He graduated from the Boston Latin School in 1944 and The Ohio State University in 1949 with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering. He was a member of The American Society of Civil Engineers, Franklin County Chapter of The Ohio Society of Professional Engineers where he served as President, National Society of Professional Engineers, The Ohio State University Civil Engineering Alumni Association, Senior Member of Builder's Exchange of Central Ohio, Aladdin Shrine Temple and its band, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus Whitehall Lodge 761, Columbus Jewish Historical Society, Wexner Heritage Village, Congregation Tifereth Israel and its brotherhood. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 9 at THE EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3232 E. Main St. with Rabbi Harold Berman officiating. Burial will follow at New Tifereth Israel Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at the Cohen residence Sunday through Thursday evenings. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Congregation Tifereth Israel, , The or charity of donor's choice.
