Buttress Joseph Paul Buttress, 90, passed away on February 8, 2014. He was born on April 20, 1923 in Cambridge, Ohio to Albert and Hafefe Buttress. Joe was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and worked at Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Company until his retirement. Joe was a longtime member of St. Christopher Catholic Church as well as Knights of Columbus, Catholic War Veterans, and St. Vincent de Paul Society. He spent his retired years honoring his faith by joyfully serving others through his volunteer work at Mt. Carmel West Hospital, St. Lawrence Haven and various activities at his church. He humbly received many awards including 2013 Catholic Man of the Year, 2011 Knight of the Year and was selected to participate in the Honor Flight Program. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers George, Neasurie, Mitchell and Aneese. Survivors include his devoted wife of 56 years, Mary (Pannella); and loving children, Phil (Patti) Buttress, Sue (Gary) Bauchmoyer, Marybeth (Phil) Callaghan and Anne (Bill) Heinmiller. He was very proud of his 11 grandchildren, Dan and Patrick Buttress, Kaitlin, Bryan and Rylie Bauchmoyer, Leah, Cole and Will Callaghan and Tim, Molly and Andrew Heinmiller. In addition he is survived by sisters, Betty Buttress and Rose Boerger; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Theresa Buttress, Smaya Buttress, Anne and Peter Salemi, Clem and Virginia Pannella, Rita and Ernie Melaragno and Bob and Jeanne Pannella; as well as, many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Joe was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and watching the Buckeyes and the Reds. The family wishes to thank the staff of Westminster Thurber and Senior Independence Hospice and all others who cared for him so lovingly. Joe's family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at THE JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Avenue, Columbus, with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014, at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 1420 Grandview Avenue, Columbus. Rev. Msgr. John K. Cody, Presider. Burial to follow, St. Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne.
