Ibom Kathleen Ann Hoffman Ibom, age 63, died on January 11, 2014 in Columbus, Ohio. Kathy was born in Hartford City, Indiana to Raymond and Helen (Johnson) Hoffman. She was raised in Anderson, Indiana and graduated from Anderson High School. She graduated from Indiana University, earning a Bachelors of Science degree in elementary education. She obtained a Masters of Arts in early and middle childhood education from The Ohio State University. Kathy married Dr. Godfrey Ibom in 1976 in Columbus, Ohio. She was a teacher in Columbus City Schools for over twenty years and also served as a literacy consultant for the entire district and co-authored two textbooks. Her specialty was reading education. She was passionate about improving the lives of her students and was adored by her students and extremely well respected by her colleagues. Kathy's other interests included cooking, reading, sewing, and spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Godfrey Ibom; her three children, Dr. Valerie (Andre) Ibom Reed of Houston, Texas, Erik Ibom of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and Tyler Ibom of Columbus, Ohio; and one granddaughter Alexandria Reed of Houston, Texas. Her parents and her sister Margaret Hoffman, preceded her in death. Kathy approached life with humor, enthusiasm, fierce loyalty, and intense love for her family and friends. She will be dearly missed. A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2014 at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St., Worthington, Ohio 43085, where family and friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time.
