Grooms Kenneth E. "Kenny" Grooms, age 75, of Galena, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 7, 1937, in Detroit, to the late Clarence Edward and Emma Helen (Hawthorne) Grooms. Kenny married the love of his life, Joan Goldsberry, on August 24, 1957. He worked as a carpenter before graduating from The Ohio State University in 1980 with a degree in education. He went on to teach at Southeast Career Center in Columbus for many years. Kenny enjoyed fishing, camping and anything outdoors. He golfed and bowled in his younger days. Described as a God-fearing, honest man, Kenny was extremely loyal and strong-willed; traits he passed on to his children. Giving of his time to others, Kenny was the neighborhood handyman and always cleared the sidewalks and driveways of neighbors in the winter. In addition to being a member of the Galena United Methodist Church, the Centerburg Conservation Club and the F&AM Lodge 339, Kenny was a well-respected scout master/Leader of Troup 300 for 13 years and a little league baseball coach. He is survived by his wife, Joan of Galena; sons, Kenny (Kristina) Grooms, Jr. of Sunbury; Kevin Grooms of Westerville; daughters, Kim (Keith) Edwards of Marengo; Kelley Grooms of Galloway; sister, Marilyn (Yukio) Hamada of Hawaii; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one niece and nephew; one great nieces and four great nephews. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Monday, at the DeVORE-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, SR's 3 at 61, Sunbury, with service at 7 p.m. Pastor Jeff Croft presiding, with a Masonic Service to follow.
