Brooks Kenneth I. Brooks, 89 years of Columbus, OH. Passed on to his reward on February 15, 2014 from the Westminster-Thurber Health Center surrounded by his loving family. Veteran of WWII, US Army Air Corps, stationed in the Philippines, then Japan following the surrender. He was recognized with three bronze stars. Preceded in death by his parents Irving J Brooks and Nellie (Armstrong) Brooks. Survived by his wife of 66 years, Alice Ann (Ervin) Brooks of Columbus; sons, Donald Brooks of Perrysburg OH and Lawrence (Karen Saunders) Brooks of Middleburg Heights, OH; grandchildren, Jannelle (Casey) Galloway of Loveland, OH, Matthew Brooks of Brooklyn, NY and Jennifer (Cody) Richmond of Parma Heights OH; cousins, Beverly Flaherty and Melody Brooks (John Tarby) of Plymouth, OH, and Bonnie Brooks (Ed) Cordle of Berlin Heights, OH; sisters-in-law, Ruth (Loren) Jolly of Wheelersburg OH and Barbara House of Wellston OH. Graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Warren OH and received his BS in Industrial Engineering from The Ohio State University, class of '49. Retired from General Motors Corporation, Columbus plant, as a Senior Quality Standards Engineer after 33 years of service. Kenny was a 68 year member of the 5th Ave Evangelical United Brethren Church, (now New Life United Methodist) where he met and married Alice, the love of his life. He taught Sunday School and was Sunday School superintendent, chairman of the Board of Trustees and 30 year delegate to the United Methodist Annual Conference at Lakeside. He was a 60 year member, board member and past president of the American Society for Quality, Columbus section. Life Member of The Ohio State University Alumni Association and College of Engineering Alumni Association and followed his Buckeyes around the country at away and bowl games. Was a witness in the stadium of the Snow Bowl against U of M, November, 1950. Funeral Service to be held 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High Street, Worthington, OH with Reverend Jennifer Kimball-Casto officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made to New Life United Methodist Church, 25 W Fifth Ave, Columbus OH 43201 or to Westminster-Thurber Life Care, 717 Neil Ave, Columbus, OH 43215 in his memory.
