Faehnle Dr. Thomas Marion Faehnle and Loretta Julia (Grogan) Faehnle, both 89, of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, originally from Sabina, Ohio, passed away peacefully of natural causes just one week apart; Thomas on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, and Loretta on August 27, 2013. They were born five days apart in 1923, Thomas on December 8 and Loretta on December 3 and married on July 10, 1948. Dr. Faehnle was born in Logan, Ohio to Agnes and Carl G. Faehnle of Columbus, Ohio. He was a World War II veteran who proudly served as an ensign in the United States Navy. Following his military service, Thomas graduated from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1950 and was in private family practice in Sabina, Ohio. He served as the family physician for multiple generations of families in the Clinton and Fayette Co. area until his retirement in 1996. Mrs. Faehnle was born in Columbus, Ohio to Sylvester and Zita Grogan. She graduated in 1944 from the Mount Carmel Hospital School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio. After graduation Loretta served at the Columbus Tuberculosis Society as clinic nurse and as the Assistant Head Nurse of the nursery and surgical units of Mount Carmel Hospital for two years. She then enrolled in St. Mary's College at Notre Dame University studying nursing education. They are survived by their sons, Thomas (Kathleen) Faehnle of Painesville, OH, Patrick (Barbara) Faehnle of Palm City, FL; and daughter, Genevieve (James Lifter Jr.) Faehnle of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Kelly (William Sheredy), Thomas, Sarah, and Emily Faehnle. Dr. Faehnle is survived by his brothers, David and Don Faehnle; and sister, Martha Casey. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Gene and Carl Faehnle, and his sisters Jeanette Whitmer, Marilyn Taylor, and Barbara DeRoche. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Patricia, and brothers Walter and Lawrence Grogan. During his lifetime, Dr. Faehnle served on the board for Clinton Memorial Hospital and had multiple terms as Chief of Staff for the hospital. He was one of the first inductees into the American Academy of Family Practice. He was a member of the Wilmington, Ohio Elks Lodge, Sabina Lions Club, and other volunteer organizations. He was a true family man who enjoyed spending time outdoors and traveling across the country introducing his family to the wonders of the United States. During her lifetime, Mrs. Faehnle was a member of Thrice Five Club in Sabina, Ohio and the Women's Auxiliary of Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, Ohio. Loretta was an active volunteer in her community working with the Mother's Club PTA of Sabina Elementary and various other volunteer organizations serving the local community. She was the consummate hostess and she always made each guest feel special in her home. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, September 28 at 9 a.m. at St. Agatha Catholic Church, 1860 Northam Road, Upper Arlington, OH. A brunch at the church will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Clinton Memorial Hospital, 610 W. Main Street, Wilmington, OH 45177 in memory of Dr. Thomas and Mrs. Loretta Faehnle.
