Meinken (McCann) Louella Meinken, nee McCann, age 88, of Columbus, previously of Arlington Heights, IL, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Sunrise of Bexley. Preceded in death by parents Alban and Blanche (Colopy) McCann, husband Lawrence Meinken, sister Madeline (Madge) McCann, brothers T. Joseph and Gregory McCann, brother-in-law George Gugle, and sister-in-law Joan McCann. She is survived by her sister, Helen Gugle; brother, Alban Jr. (Connie) McCann; sister-in-law, Peggy McCann; 16 nieces and nephews; and 17 great nieces and nephews. Louella was born August 29, 1925 in Zanesville, OH. She graduated from Rosary High School; earned her Bachelors degree from The Ohio State University in 1948, and became an avid, lifelong Buckeye fan. After working in various occupations in Columbus, she went to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the Department of Education. Next she moved to Chicago, IL where she worked for the White Sox organization and met Lawrence Meinken. They were married in 1975 and lived in Arlington Heights, IL. Louella was involved in many Chicago-area charities, including her church, St. Cecelia, and the Misericordia Home. She returned to Columbus in 2001 and rejoined her former parish, St. Catharine. She was also a member of Columbus Country Club. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday 11 a.m. at St. Catharine Church, 500 S. Gould Rd. where friends may call from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Burial St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please contribute in Louella's memory to St. Catharine Church.
