Marilyn Joyce James Obituary
James Marilyn Joyce James was born in Boardman, Ohio on April 13, 1948 and passed away peacefully from complications related to duodenum cancer on the evening of February 26, 2013 at the James Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio. She was cured of triple negative breast cancer 7 years ago and spent the past 10 months bravely fighting this new cancer. When asked how this could have happened, the answer was "unfortunately lightning struck Marilyn twice." Marilyn was a graduate of Youngstown State University and earned her Masters at the University of Dayton. She was a much-loved Tremont Elementary School teacher in the Upper Arlington school district for more than 20 years. Marilyn loved to travel, cruise the Great Lakes with her husband aboard their boat, Moondance, and spend time with friends. Most of all however, Marilyn treasured her time as "Mimi" to her grandchildren, Caroline and William. She is preceded in death by her parents Donald and Lucille Scheetz. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 37 years, Dick; sons, Clark (Heidi) of Columbus, Ohio and Robert (Molly) of Tampa, Florida; beloved grandchildren, Caroline and William who were the lights of her life; sister, Suzanne McIntyre of Negley, Ohio; sister-in-law, Lynda (Rich) Murray of Columbus, Ohio; brother-in-law, Bob (Dianne) James of Celebration, Florida; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1899 McCoy Rd. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd. Father Michael B. Watson, Celebrant. The family extends their deepest appreciation to the nursing staff at the James Cancer Center and Wexner Medical Center for the tender care that Marilyn received, and special thanks to Dr. Mark Bloomston who is an outstanding surgeon, and an even better friend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the James Cancer Development Office, 660 Ackerman Rd., P.O. Box 183112, Columbus, Ohio 43218.
