PANTALOS Mary Pavlyak Pantalos, age 90, of Columbus, OH, died peacefully, Tuesday, January 15, 2013, closely following her husband Jim to eternal rest. Survived by daughter, Jacquie Reed of Fishers, IN; son, George Pantalos of Louisville, KY; and five grandchildren. Mary was born in Auburn, NY, the daughter of immigrants from Starina, Slovakia. Mary was a graduate of Auburn High School in 1940. Mary and Jim were married in 1946 following his return from WWII. After raising her family, she returned to work at The Ohio State University and then at Ashland Oil for 20 years. She joined Jim on many activities at The Ohio State University including honorary faculty advisor to the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity. Mary also helped out with many local charities, the Girls Scouts, and the Cub Scouts. Jim and Mary were members of St. James Episcopal Church upon arrival in Columbus, and have been active members of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in recent decades where she particularly enjoyed helping at the annual Greek Festival. Mary was an adult volunteer at COSI for many years and was one of the first volunteers to be recognized for 3000 hours of service. Calling hours will be at the RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High Street in Worthington, from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013. Funeral service will be celebrated at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 555 North High Street, Columbus, 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will take place at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Auburn, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary's memory to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church or St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, Cross and Cottage Streets, Auburn, NY 13021.
