Garabis Maureen D. Garabis, age 65, unexpectedly Tuesday, October 1, 2013, the Feast Day of St. Therese of Lisieux, at Riverside Hospital. Born in Nelson, Lancashire, England, of Irish parents. Immigrated to the U.S. in 1957. She graduated first in her class at Marygrove College in Detriot, MI. She subsequently earned her Master's Degree at The Ohio State University. Longtime member of St. Agatha Church and School. A devout Catholic, she faithfully attended daily Mass. She lived her life exemplifying her strong conviction for the sanctity of human life. Preceded in death by her devoted husband Francisco and loving father Joseph Kearns. Proud mother of Francisco (Carrie) Garabis, IV, M.D., Andres (Laine), Maria (Chris) Davis, Ana (T.J.) Wichmann, Elena, Rafael (Lauren) Garabis, M.D., Lucia, Miguel, and Antonio Garabis. Caring grandmother to Krystina, Francisco V, and Maximilian Garabis, Mary Kate, Gemma, and Raphael Wichmann, and Augustine, Lola, and Jude Davis. Survived by mother, Mary Kearns; sister, Jean (Bernie) Miller; brothers-in-law, Jose (Clary) and Antonio (Winifred) Garabis; nieces and nephews. Her life was spent faithfully devoted to her husband of 38 years as well as her much beloved nine children and nine grandchildren. Children were drawn to her kind gentle heart and her magical storytelling. She was also known for her love of literature and miles spent walking around Northam Park. She was a mother to all who knew her. Although she is gone and irreplaceable, we are comforted to know she has returned to the loving arms of her Paco. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday 10 a.m. at St. Agatha Church, 1860 Northam Rd. Family will receive friends in the church one hour prior to Mass and at a reception in the parish hall immediately after. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Friends who wish, may contribute in her memory to the Poor Clare Monastery, 3501 Rocky River Dr., Cleveland, OH 44111, St. Agatha Parish or the Columbus Right to Life.
