Paul Dean Henion Obituary
Henion Dr. Paul Dean Henion, age 50, passed away on January 10, 2014 after a two and half year illness with cancer. He was born April 17, 1963 in Cleveland, Ohio and grew up in Brockport, New York. He is predeceased by his father Wallace Henion, his grandmother Hazel Frank, and is survived by his mother, Nancy Henion; his wife of 21 years, Christine Beattie; sons, Sam and Neil Henion; brothers, Scott (Christine) and Doug (Kenna) Henion; and nephew, Christopher Henion; along with many members of the Beattie family and dear friends. Paul was a proud, caring, loving father to Sam and Neil and conveyed to them his thoughtful approach to life not to mention his love of planes, trains, and rockets. He also left them the legacy of his family cottage in Canada where the family spends every summer vacation and will forever associate with him. Paul loved the time he spent living in Oregon and ventured back yearly to go salmon fishing. Besides being with his family, his happiest times where in a boat on a river. Paul was an Associate Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Ohio State University. He was an accomplished experimentalist. His careful way with words and his deep thinking were hallmarks of his approach to his science. He obtained his BS in biology from Colby College, his PhD from Case Western Reserve University and did his postdoctoral studies at the University of Oregon. He has many dear friends and former students from his scientific life. The family wishes to thank all of their family and friends during Paul's illness for their help and support and the nurses and doctors at the James Cancer Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Oregon Wild (http://www.oregonwild.org/about/donate). A memorial event celebrating his life will be held at the Franklin Park Conservatory Palm House, Saturday January 18 from 4-7 p.m. with a short memorial service at 4:45 p.m. Please visit www.schoedinger.com to share a special memory or to extend condolences.
