Robert D. Keim Obituary
Keim Robert D. Keim, 94, a resident of Upper Arlington since 1952, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 13, 2014. He was born on May 10, 1920 in Crawfordsville, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Phyllis, parents Lois and Dwight Keim, and mother-in-law and father-in-law Roy and Josephine Julian. He is survived by his sister, Jane; daughter, Jody Keim; sons, Jim (Marcia) Keim and Bill (Evie) Keim; grandchildren, Michelle Bering, Kathy (John) Kirkpatrick, Julie (Pete) Pisarri, Rob Keim, Lori Keim (Dennis Borlek), Mark (Courtney) Keim; great grandchildren, Jennifer Bering, Hudson Keim, Josh Pisarri, Michael and Allison Kirkpatrick; and many step grandchildren and their families. Bob was raised and attended high school in West Lafayette, Indiana. He then went on to graduate from Purdue University in 1942 with a degree in Business. It was where he met his wife Phyllis. He was a member of Kappa Sig fraternity, and held 2 Big Ten Track records. A veteran of WWII, he served as a Captain in the United States Army Air Force. He was a flight instructor on B17's and B29's, and in 1944 was asked to be a test pilot in the B59, the first US Fighter Jet. He devoted his entire life to the automobile industry, serving as President of Gager Keim Ford and Bob Keim Ford. Bob served numerous organizations through the years including: President of Easter Seals, member of the Upper Arlington City Council, President of the Upper Arlington Civic Association, President of the Columbus Automobile Dealers Association, President of the Ohio Automobile Dealers Association, Winner of the Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award, President of City Club and The University Club, President of Wesley Glen Retirement Center, President of Scioto Country Club, board member of Central Ohio Transit Association (COTA), board member of Scioto Downs Race Track. Bob was a member of Trinity Unity Methodist Church. An avid Buckeye fan, Bob was a huge supporter of The Ohio State Athletics, particularly the Basketball program. Bob was always the first to talk to you. He always cared about what you had to say and never had an enemy. He was a very generous and caring father, grandfather and businessman. Our family is extremely grateful for Dad's devoted caregiver, Jodi Gourley, who has lived with Dad over the last 2 1/2 years. We wish to thank Kobacker House, for their support during his last days. Bob's life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2014 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1581 Cambridge Blvd., Columbus, Ohio 43212 where family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to the time of service. Reverend Dr. Christopher Heckaman, presiding. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following the service at a separate location. Private family entombment at Green Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Central Ohio , 1379 Dublin Road, Columbus, Ohio 43215 or to Ohio Health Hospice, Attn.: Kobacker House, 180 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215 in his memory.
