APPELL Robert N. Appell I, age 91, of Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully on December 2, 2012 at Kobacker House. He was born May 11, 1921 in Columbus, to the late Norman R. and Margaret Appell. Bob served in the U.S. Marines during WWII, and because of his willingness to serve, he was awarded a delayed diploma from St. Francis DeSales High School. Bob was a Columbus firefighter and paramedic; retired from Firehouse #6, after 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Matthias Catholic Church, a life member of AmVets Post OH89 and an original member of the 161/Maple Canyon McDonald's coffee club. He enjoyed nothing more than cheering on his children and grandchildren in whatever sport they were playing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Robert N. Appell II, brother Charles Appell, sister Carol Ebright, four sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Stella T. (Abbott) Appell; sons, James and T.J. Appell; daughter-in-law, Terry Appell; grandchildren, Amy (Fred) Green, Dr. James "Duke" (Carrie) Appell, Robert Appell III and Ryan Appell; 5 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Justin and David Green, Victor and Colin Appell; brother, Frank (Lois) Appell; sister, Jeanne Marsh; sister-in-law, Lucy Cole; brothers-in-law, Nick (Angie) Abbott and Russell (Mary) Abbott; special family, Mary D'Andrea, Sonny and Rose (son, Joe), Bobby and Marcia D'Andrea; and Bob's two favorite dogs, Toby and Hunter; also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd., Columbus, OH 43229 with a memorial Mass at a later date.
