Roman "Hook" "Kris" Krizinski Obituary
Krizinski Roman "Kris" "Hook" Krizinski born 21 February 1922 in Dowagiac, Michigan to Polish immigrant parents passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013 at his home in the arms of his daughter and son-in-law. His last words were "Well, I'd better go home." And so he did. Roman married Kathryn (Kate) Mae Dale October 1945 in Charleston, South Carolina while Roman was stationed there with the Army Air Corps. Kris was in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1940 to 1941. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and became a flight engineer on B-17's. He was honorably discharged in 1945 as a Corporal and earned the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. After the war Kris and Kate returned to Dowagiac where their only child, Patricia was born. While living in Dowagiac they both worked for the Round Oak Stove Factory. The family moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1949. Kris took a position with the U.S. Post Office on the Hilltop which he held for 33 years. During the summers while walking his route he was known to bring stray children and dogs home for lunch with he and his wife Kate. Roman, an avid Michigan fan, had a 70 year old running bet with his brother-in-law, Tom Dale on the outcome of every Michigan/Ohio State game. The winner gained a bottle of his favorite beverage. He was in the stands during the 1950 "Snow Bowl". He was a member of the following organizations: The Columbus Helvetia Maennerchor in the Swiss Club (the longest active member to date), Aladdin Shriners, Shrine Band Quartermaster & Librarian, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, American Legion Gentile Post 532, AMVETS Post 1928, VFW Post 4044, West Gate Masonic Lodge #0623, National Association for Uniformed Services, and AARP. He is survived by daughter, Patricia Jo (Sid) Drumheiser of Grove City; grandson, Chris Brown of Columbus; brother-in-law, Tom (Pat) Dale of Upper Arlington; sisters, Joan Blahuta and Dorothy Smola, both of Decatur, Michigan, Alice Lee of Dowagiac, Michigan, Sylvia Blake of LaPorte, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. Roman was pre-deceased by Kathryn, his wife of 57 years, brothers Zigmont, Ted, Leo and Abe Krizinski, and sisters Irene Schmitz and Katherine Hazel. A gathering of friends and family will be scheduled at a later date. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery, Galloway. Contributions in Roman's memory may be made to the 5455 N. High Street, Columbus, OH 43214. Arrangements entrusted to the SCHOEDINGER HILLTOP CHAPEL. Please visit www.schoedinger.com to share memories or extend condolences.
