Rosemary Pace Steele

Steele Rosemary Pace Steele, 95, of Columbus, OH, passed away on March 19, 2014. Born August 3, 1918 in Roseville, Ohio, daughter of Alvah Pace and Winnie McTeague. Rosemary was a quiet leader throughout her life. She was a graduate of Columbus North High School and The Ohio State University to which she returned to earn a second degree in Education after all her children reached school age. She taught for 28 years at Ridgewood Elementary School in Hilliard. An avid reader throughout her life, she was a founding board member of the Friends of the Upper Arlington Public Library, devoted countless hours as a volunteer there and gained immeasurable pleasure from sorting and selling donated used books. She volunteered with the Cub Scouts, and the Youth Fellowship at Maple Grove Methodist Church. Survivors include her children and in-laws, Geoff and Kay Steele of Springfield, OH, Sheridan and Barb Steele of Bar Harbor, ME, and Christopher K. Steele, Felicity Steele and Joe Harp of Columbus; seven grandchildren, Zach Steele of Cincinnati, Andrew Steele of Columbus, Chris C. Steele of Gunnison, CO, Kelly (Matt) Buffington of Denver, Alexander (Nicole) Kernbaum of Sunnyvale, CA, Jacob (Mischa) Boxerbaum of Columbus and Bryce (Amy) Boxerbaum of Denver; and three great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Richard E. Steele. A celebration of Rosemary's life is planned for Saturday, May 31, 10:30 a.m. until 12Noon at the Mirolo Barn in Upper Arlington. Contributions can be made in Rosemary's name to the Friends of the Upper Arlington Public Library or the National Park Foundation.
