HERGESELL Russell E. Hergesell, 88, of Upper Arlington, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012. He was born June 10, 1924 in Columbus to the late Carl and Nora Hergesell. Russell was a graduate of West H.S. and The Ohio State University with a BS in accounting. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Third Army, General Patton's' Sixth Armored Division and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for injuries sustained in the Battle of the Bulge, WW II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 bronze stars. Russell retired from North American Rockwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Martha in 1991, son Gary Alan in 1963, sister Donna Jean Chadwick, brother-in-law Richard Boyd, and dear friend Carol Clark. Russell will be missed by his loving children and their spouses, Lt. Col USAF (Ret.) Gregory L. Hergesell, (Patricia), Sheryl L. Southworth (David), Lt. Col. USAF (Ret.) Carl K. Hergesell, (Kathy), Russell S. Hergesell, and Richard A. Hergesell; seven grandchildren, Bryan, Brent, David, Heather, Russell, Jackie, and Justin; eight great-grandchildren; and many cousins, extended family members, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, OH, where family will receive friends Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Interment Sunset Cemetery.
