Hollenback Sally Lee (Young) Hollenback, age 83, died February 4, 2013. She is survived by sons, Jeff (Peggy) and Dan; and grandsons, Max Hollenback and Ryan Shamansky. Sally was pre-deceased by her parents Max and Etna Young, husband of nearly 57 years Don (2008), and daughter Susan Beth Shamansky (2012). Born March 25, 1929 and raised in Clintonville, where she met her future husband in elementary school, Sally was a proud polar bear, graduating from North High School in 1947, a year after Don. While earning a degree in education from The Ohio State University (1952), she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and really did attend the OSU/Michigan Snow Bowl. A recognized pioneer in education, Sally was the director of St. John's Early Education Center in Worthington for nearly 25 years. She was the founder and first director of the Old Liberty Early Education Center at Liberty Presbyterian Church in Delaware, where she and Don became members when the family moved to the Hollenback family farm in 1977. In addition to her love of children and dedication to their education, Sally was always overjoyed to see friends old and new, whether at church, community activities, one of the family antique stores in Powell or every single garage sale that caught her eye. Don and Sally were "that cute little couple with a covered dish" and a hug for everyone. A devoted mother and grandmother, she was happiest with her family, watching her children and grandsons play on the farm and looking for harbingers of spring. Friends are invited to a memorial service at Liberty Presbyterian Church (corner of Home Road and SR 315) on Sunday, February 17, at 2 p.m., officiated by Pastors John and Becky Hart. A reception at the church will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Old Liberty Early Education Center, 6070 Olentangy River Rd., Delaware, OH 43015. In Sally's honor, read to your children and always take the time to look at the world with wonderment through the eyes of a child.
