Sarah Rowland Aplin Kocsis Obituary
Kocsis Dr. Sarah Rowland Aplin Kocsis, age 70 years, of Columbus, passed away on September 2, 2013. She was born on March 10, 1943 in West Palm Beach, FL. Sarah was raised in Gnadenhutten, OH and grew up in Upper Arlington, OH where she graduated from Upper Arlington High School class of 1961. She received her Bachelor degree from Ohio Wesleyan and her Master and PhD of Psychology from The Ohio State University. She was a member of Phi Beta Phi sorority, Mortar Board and Phi Beta Kappa. Sarah worked as an intern for Franklin County as a School Psychologist. She traveled abroad and worked for 4 years at Department of Defense Schools overseas and U.S. Military Dependent Schools in Baumholder, Germany. Upon returning to the U.S, she worked as a school psychologist for Westerville City School district, and after retiring from Westerville, for Columbus City School district, Sarah travelled extensively with her husband and family. She was a world traveler, visiting Africa, Asia, Russia, Europe, and all over North America. Sarah volunteered extensively at Bethel International United Methodist Church where she was a member and Officer/President of UMW. A loving patient mother, Sarah was passionate about her children and grandchildren. She was an avid supporter of her children's athletic and academic functions along with supporting bake sales and PTA. She gained great joy from helping others. Sarah spent 15 summers with her family in Pensacola Beach and has taken 10 cruises "down-east" in Maine aboard the schooner Heritage. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Dr. Elizabeth Aplin, sister-in-law Patricia Aplin, cousin Robert Lehner. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Alexander Stephen Kocsis; children, Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Saxer, A. Stephen (Aubrey) Kocsis II, Drs. Andrew (Kristin) Kocsis; two granddaughters, Maggie and Kaitlyn Saxer; brothers, Dr. Charles E. Aplin II and G. Edward (Marilyn) Minteer; cousins, Dr. Thomas (Nancy) Dickerson and Jane Lehner; nieces and nephews, Jennifer (Stacy) Elliot, Charles E. Aplin III, Stewart (Yu-Ling) Minteer and Robert (Kristina) Minteer; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013 at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd. A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Gnadenhutten Clay-Union Cemetery in Gnadenhutten, OH 44629. The Rev. Charles W. Hemming and Rev. Mary Whetstone-Manieri officiating. A Memorial Service will be held in Sarah's memory on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Bethel International United Methodist Church, 1220 Bethel Road, Columbus, OH 43235 with Pastor M. Pratt officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sparrow House, 19660 St. Rt 180, South Perry, OH 43135, Pelotonia donating to rider Michael Hock, John C. Heckewelder Moravian Church of Gnadenhutten, Ohio, or to Bethel International United Methodist Church Columbus, OH.
