Gabel Thomas L. Gabel, 82, formerly of New Knoxville, OH, died Sunday March 15, 2014 at Gulfside Regional Hospice in Zephyrhills, FL. He was born January 9, 1932 in Columbus, OH to William Henry and Ruth (McPherson) Gabel. On January 31, 1953 in Washington, D.C., he married Gloria June McHugh, who died January 2, 2000. He later married Ruth Hildreth in 2001, who survives in Columbus, OH. Also survived by daughter, Monica (Larry) Wills of Zephyrhills, FL; son, Harry (Christy Settlage) Gabel of New Knoxville, OH; son, Thomas (Mary Jo Schmiesing) Gabel of Minster, OH; son, Andrew (Nancy Kirkhoff) Gabel of Spencerville, OH; son, John (Laura Raesky) Gabel of Wapakoneta, OH; son, Chris (Gail Gurowski) Gabel of New Bremen, OH; daughter, Meredith (Todd) Pratt of Spring Hill, TN; son, Matt (Jill Settlage) Gabel of New Knoxville, OH; son, Eric (Mia Doty) Gabel of Mt. Vernon, OH; 30 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents William Henry and Ruth Gabel, step-mother Ruth (Wright) Gabel, wife Gloria Gabel. He was a graduate of Worthington, OH High School and attended The Ohio State University. He retired from Kerry Ingredients Corp. in Covington, OH, where he was Plant Manager. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the New Knoxville United Methodist Church, and American Legion Post #444 in New Knoxville. Tom was instrumental in the Buckeye Boys' State program, having served as commissioner and program director for 40 years. He was also involved with the Farm Science Review in London, OH for a number of years. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family. Funeral services are scheduled to begin 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at New Knoxville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Gaertner and the Rev. Louis Schmitt, officiating. Burial, with full graveside military honors, will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery in New Knoxville, OH. Visitation 2-8 p.m. Friday at MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West Chapel) in St. Marys, OH. Memorial contributions may be directed to either Buckeye Boys State, Bethel UMC, or Tom & Gloria Gabel Memorial Scholarship Fund. Online condolences may be expressed via:
