William Edward Link Obituary
Link William Edward Link, Ph.D., 92, of Columbus, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2013. He was born January 24, 1921 in Ironwood, MI to the late Edward and Lillian Link. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army during WWII and continued to serve in the Reserves. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a Doctorate degree in Analytical Chemistry. Dr. Link worked for Archer Daniels Midland and Ashland Chemical before retiring as the V.P. of Research and Development at Sherex. He was a member of the Linworth United Methodist Church and very active in the AOCS. Dr. Link was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Paul Link. Dr. Link will be missed by his loving wife of 66 years, Betty; daughters, Katherine (John) Byerly and Carolynn (Ed) Staffen; grandchildren, Shawn (Nicole) Byerly and their son, Brody, Link (Michelle) Staffen and their son, Luke, and William (fiancée, Ashley) Staffen; and sister, Helen (Leroy) Nylen. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the Linworth United Methodist Church, 7070 Bent Tree Blvd., Columbus, OH 43235. Rev. Dr. H. Eugene Folden, officiating. A Celebration of Life reception will follow at Trillium Place, 3500 Trillium Crossing. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dr. Link's memory to the Linworth United Methodist Church Johanson Fund or VITAS Hospice, 655 Metro Pl. S., #770, Columbus, OH 43017.
