McDermott William G. McDermott, age 81, of McKinney, TX, passed away May 16, 2013. He was born September 9, 1931 in Cleveland, OH, to William and Helen (Gleason) McDermott. William grew up in Cleveland, completed high school at Shaker Heights High and then University School. He went on to graduate from Colgate University and then received his Master's degree in administration and taxation through the Nation Trust School at Northwestern University. William spent over 40 years in the financial service industry working and living in New York City, Jackson, MS, Columbus, OH, and Dallas, TX. Upon retirement he moved to McKinney, TX, to be near his daughters and granddaughters. In addition to his business career, William was also known for his years teaching adult education coursed such as CLU programs, Ohio Trust School and Southern Trust School. Further, he was a speaker teaching continuing legal courses for the Ohio, Alabama and Mississippi Bar Associations. Even after retirement William continued to teach at the local community college. After losing his eye sight in his late 70's, he completed his first novel, "Two Paths." He is survived by his wife of over 19,000 days, Carolyn McDermott of McKinney, TX; daughters, Carolyn Robbins and husband, Gordon of McKinney, TX, and Susan Dykgraaf and husband, Chris of Little Elm, TX; grand-daughters, Brittany, Erin and Presley; and sisters, Nan Atkinson and husband, Richard of Virginia, and Molly McDermott of Vermont. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 6400 McKinney Ranch Pkwy., McKinney, TX, with Rev. Mike Michie officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Talking Book Program for the Blind, PO Box 12516, Austin, TX 78711 or St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
