Myers William Michael "Mike" Myers, 58, of Grandview Heights, died June 30, 2013, in a motorcycle accident in Kingman, AZ. He was an avid golfer, distance runner, motorcyclist, and life adventurer who cultivated and enjoyed his very wide circle of friends, family, and coworkers. He was known for his unique approach to life, an individualist and iconoclast who was loyal and caring, and who pushed others to exceed their own expectations. He was one of the kindest and most generous people to ever walk this earth. A father, a husband, a friend, a mentor and an employer who deeply cared about people, and who could make anyone laugh - most often without even trying. Mike was born on September 17, 1954, in Nashville, TN, to William Truett Myers and Nell Hunter Myers. He grew up in Fort Worth, TX, attended Baylor University, and earned an associate degree in laser technology from Texas Tech. He began his exceptionally successful and creative career teaching laser science at a technical college in Versailles, IN, before moving to Columbus, OH, where he worked as a laser researcher in the electronics group of Battelle Memorial Institute. While there, he earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Ohio State University and his work resulted in several patents. He was an original staff member of Photonic Integration Research Inc. (PIRI), and eventually became Vice President for Research. In 2004, he formed his own company in Columbus, PLC Connections, continuing his work in photonics and serving customers worldwide. Mike was preceded in death by his father. He will be deeply missed by those in whose hearts he will always remain: son, John Merrill Myers; daughter, Suzanne Avril Myers; wife, Jane Moran; and stepchildren, Christine, Geoffrey, and Kathleen Moran, all of Columbus; mother, Nell Myers; sister, Holly DiTallo (Darius); niece, Devin Smith (Bryant); and nephew, Hunter DiTallo, all of Arizona; brother, John Myers (Sharla); and nieces Millie and Lenora Myers, all of Louisiana; friend and co-parent of John and Suzanne, Sandy Myers of Columbus; numerous relatives and countless friends, including the Palmer Road gang. Mike will be laid to rest at a family service in Arizona this week. A memorial service and celebration of Mike's life will be held in Columbus and announced at a later date.
