James Keune Obituary

KEUNE James G. Keune, born in Hillsboro, Illinois February 14, 1939, passed peacefully in his home on Friday morning, February 10, 2012. Son of Ralph and Mildred; beloved husband of Barbara Wingard; father of Christopher (Tampa, Florida), Kathryn (Northampton, Massachusetts), and Jeffrey (Columbus, Ohio); father-in-law of Kristen Miller Keune, Randy Sailer, and Katherine Ross Keune; grandfather of Grant, Meghan, and Kelsey Wicks and Logan Keune; brother of Darla Selter (Seattle, Washington). James graduated from the University of Illinois in 1961 and joined the Navy, attending Officer Candidate School in Newport R. I. He served on the destroyer The Gainard patroling from the Meditteranean to the Gulf of Aden returning to be part of the Cuban blockade. He then was assigned as an officer at the Naval Communications Station in Washington D.C. where he served until his discharge. Following discharge he began a successful career in sales with various corrugated companies creating point-of-purchase displays for Disney and Keebler. He retired from Smurfit-Stone in 2006. He and his wife moved to Worthington in 2007 to receive treatment at the OSU James Cancer Center. He was an avid sailor, photographer, and reader. James was a loyal friend who was loved and will be missed. There will be no service. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship is being set up for a student to attend the Wooden Boat School. Contributions may be sent in Jim's name to The Wooden Boat School, P.O. Box 78, 41 Wooden Boat Lane, Brooklin, Maine 04616. Arrangements by SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL.
