Charles "Chuck" Getzloff, 69 years, of Sturgeon Bay, died Monday afternoon (June 24, 2013) at St. Mary's Hospital in Green Bay with his family at his side.
He was born September 29, 1943 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of the late John and Donna (Peters) Getzloff. Chuck graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1962 before his service to his country with the U.S. Army from 1965-1967, and was a county deputy police officer in Sonoma, CA from 1968 to 1971 while being on inactive duty with the Army. On May 24, 1975 he married Sandra J. Frea at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Chuck worked as a machinist for over 40 years with Bay Shipbuilding from 1972 until present. He was a true craftsman who loved his work and working with his fellow workers. Above all, his greatest love was raising his daughters and spending time with his wife and grandchildren.
He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Chuck loved spending time with his family. For 16 years he was active in coaching his girls in Little League, and was involved in planning many softball tournaments. Chuck enjoyed hunting, and was a member of the Door County Rod and Gun Club.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy of Sturgeon Bay; five daughters, Tracy Getzloff of Green Bay, Tammy Getzloff of Casco, Tricia (Matt) Blasier of Luxemburg, Tia Getzloff of Green Bay, Beth (John) Dolgireff of Brussels; seven grandchildren, Blake, Bradley, Cole, Caleigh, John, Ivan, Tatiana; three sisters, Sharon Wiesner, Mary (Bob) Schmidt, Vicki (Steve) Ash all of Sturgeon Bay; his special aunt, Ruth; many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and close friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Donna Getzloff; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, John "Jack", Ken (Joan), Bill (Mary); brother-in-law, Bill Wiesner.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday (June 30, 2013) at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Deacon Paul Zenefski officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Schumacher Cemetery.
Friends may call Saturday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Huehns Funeral Home and on Sunday morning from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday evening at Huehns Funeral Home.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff and especially the nurses at St. Mary's Hospital in Green Bay, and Green Bay Oncology for the support and care shown to our husband/father during his treatment.
