Helen A. Jensen, formerly of Algoma and Sturgeon Bay, Wis., peacefully went to her heavenly home on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at the Columbia County Health Care Center, where she resided with her husband, Norman. She was born on Oct. 15, 1921, at Green Bay, to Arnold and Roxie (Yorgey) Wickman. She married John Ives in 1942, whom passed away on Aug. 18, 1947. She married Norman Jensen on April 16, 1955. Helen was a former teacher, homemaker, ran the Ellison Bay Lodge and Motel, and farmed with her husband Norman. She especially enjoyed meeting people while working at the Gills Rock information booth.
Helen was a former member of the Kewaunee Order of the Eastern Star. In her early years, Helen taught school in a one-room schoolhouse. She also was active in a bridge club.
Helen is survived by her husband of 57 years; two daughters, Nancy (Francis deceased) Bierke, Whitelaw; and Roxie (Steve) Novak, Endeavor. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Tim (Christine) Koyen, Sun Prairie; Tina Koyen, Sturgeon Bay; Paula Bierke, Brownsville; Larry (Sarah Turk-Danz) Bierke, Mount Horeb; and Michael (Jessica Henry), Endeavor. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Tim Koyen, Sun Prairie; and Kaylee Koyen, Mankato, Minn.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John Ives; a brother, Arnold Wickman; a sister, Thelma Alwin; and a son-in-law, Francis Bierke.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date with Rev. Julie Wilson, officiating.
