Meyer, Henry M.

Henry M. Meyer died on Saturday, September 21, 2013, at his home in Baileys Harbor, WI. He was born July 22, 1926, in Baileys Harbor to William and Johanna (Christenson) Meyer.

He worked on a milk route and a short time in the shipyard before going into the Army on December 28, 1944. He completed basic training and some paratroop training and he was sent to Hawaii where he served as a Sergeant in the Military Police until his discharge in 1946.

He worked as a machine operator for the Door County Highway Department for 33 years. After retirement he and Irene bought a home in Florida where they spent 18 winters enjoying Golf, visiting friends and sightseeing.

He was a member of VFW Post 9290 and also Immanuel Lutheran Church of Baileys Harbor.

Henry married Irene Ahrens at Zion United Methodist Church in Fish Creek on November 20, 1946.

He is survived by his wife, Irene and three daughters, Julie (Gerald) Peil, Jayne (Donald) Sitte, Wendy (Mitchell) Appelbaum and one son Randall (Dori) Meyer; grandchildren, Tracy (Kevin) Slezewski, Troy Sitte, Jeremy Peil (Kristen), Jamee Peil (Dominic) Geoffry and Parker Appelbaum; three great-grandchildren Ben, Griffin and Spencer Slezewski; two sisters, Gladys Bailey and Ruth Penovich; four sisters-in-law, Lucille Williams, Myrtle Stewart, Ellen Kiehnau and Judy (Ron) Ahrens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.

Memorial Service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Baileys Harbor on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Unity Hospice - 2366 Oak Ridge Circle - De Pere, WI 54115 or the in his memory
