James M. Demmin, 84, of Baileys Harbor, died early Friday morning (November 16, 2012) at Ministry-Door County Medical Center.

He was born November 30, 1927 in Green Bay, the son of the late Carl and Hulda (Liembach) Demmin. Jim graduated from Gibraltar High School in 1944. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. On November 26, 1955 he married Ruby E. Volkmann at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport. They moved to Janesville where Jim worked for General Motors for 11 years. They returned to Door County in 1966 and he found employment with Peterson Builders Inc. where he was a fiberglass fabrication specialist. Later he went to work for Bay Shipbuilding until he retired in 1980.

Jim was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport. He was an avid collector of sports memorabilia. His knowledge was so vast that often he was consulted on the historical accuracy of player who played for the Packers Football Team. Jim played basketball and baseball in high school and continued playing in the Door County Baseball League with the Egg Harbor Indians.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby; five children, Thomas Demmin of Baileys Harbor, Mary Demmin of Luxemburg, Penny (Tamman) Tayara of Beirut, Lebanon, John (Kelly) Demmin of Fish Creek, Rose Demmin of Baileys Harbor; five grandchildren, Daniel (Heather) Pfundtner, Tarek Tayara, Courtney Demmin, Nelson and Colby Demmin; two great-grandchildren, Allegra, Mason Pfundtner; other dear relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Carl and Hulda Demmin and grandson, Michael (2006).

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday (November 21, 2012) at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport with Rev. Peter Lindemann officiating. Burial will be at Egg Harbor Town Cemetery. Military honors will be held at the church following services.

Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at 3:00 p.m.
