Dr. John "Jack" Trodahl, 83 years, formerly of Sturgeon Bay and Egg Harbor, died at his home in Cape Canaveral, Florida on Saturday, October 27, 2012, succumbing to a rare neuromuscular disease that deteriorated his health over a period of many years.
Jack was born in Sturgeon Bay, June 18, 1929 to Marvin and Agnes Trodahl. He attended public school in Sturgeon Bay and, later in Egg Harbor after the family moved there in 1939 and established a family grocery business.
Jack was a 1947 graduate of Sturgeon Bay High School and earned a BA degree from St. Olaf College in 1951. After a tour in the U.S. Air Force, he attended dental school at the University of Minnesota, earning his DDS in 1960. After several years of general practice, Jack entered a residency specialty in 1966 and became board certified in 1968. He was later elected as a Director of the American Board of Oral Pathology, and served as its president in 1986.
Jack's primary career was with the Department of Veterans Affairs. During the last 13 years of his tenure, he was assigned to the VA Central Office in Washington, D.C. where, as Director of Dental Plans and Programs, he helped monitor 200+ dental clinics in the VA medical system.
Jack is survived by daughter, Marcia (Charles) Willhite of Decatur, Illinois; daughter, Susan Tyler of Titusville, Florida; and three grandchildren, Kelly and Ryan Dorang, and Hannah Willhite. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, of 57 years and grandson, Tyler Dorang.
A memorial service for Jack and Irene is planned for at a later time.
