Mary Girolamo, 89, of Dousman, WI and formerly of Beloit, WI, died Sunday, December 16, 2012 in the Masonic Health Care Center, Dousman, WI.

She was born March 11, 1923, in Blind River, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of John E. and Bertha Ann (Sivil) Hodson. Mary attended Sturgeon Bay schools and graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School, Sturgeon Bay, WI. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of WI, Madison, WI and her Masters degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. Mary married Thomas A. Girolamo on June 26, 1954 in Corpus Christi Church, Sturgeon Bay, WI. He predeceased her on December 6, 1996.

Mary taught school for three years in Sheboygan, WI, for two years in St. Charles, MN, and for five years at Roosevelt Junior High School, Beloit, WI, where she taught Latin and English. She also worked with the Beloit Library Program. Mary loved knitting, canning and freezing vegetables from her garden and also baking. She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Beloit, WI, where she served as Eucharist Minister for 17 years, served on the School Board, served on Fund Drives, and belonged to the Altar Society. Mary was a member of the Beloit Education Association, Wisconsin Education Association, and Wisconsin Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include two sons, Paul A. (Sue) Girolamo of Clinton, WI; and Thomas J. (Kathy) Girolamo of Mosinee, WI; two daughters, Jean M. (William) Bosenbecker of Oconomowoc, WI; and Ann E. Stopyro of Rochester, MN; two granddaughters, Marissa (Steve) Penoyer of Seattle, WA; and Christine (Adam) Nehls of Janesville, WI.

She was predeceased by her parents; infant son, Peter Girolamo in 1960; and brother, Edward.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, December 20, 2012, in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 2222 Shopiere Road, Beloit, WI, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with a Scripture service at 4:45 p.m.
