Eugene L. Thurman, 77, New Haven, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013, in New Haven.|
He was born Oct. 3, 1935, in Peach Orchard, Ark., the son of the late Amos Thurman and wife Birdie, nee Jones.
Eugene received his education in St. Louis and served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to1959.
He was united in marriage to Lois Pfeiffer in St. Louis. They made their home in Villa Ridge and moved to New Haven in 1997.
Eugene retired in 1997 as a police officer in Shrewsbury after 31 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Ebenezer Lutheran Church.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild; and one sister, Loretta Ames.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Thurman, New Haven; three sons, Bradley Thurman, Sullivan, Richard Thurman, Union, and Gary Thurman, Kentucky state; three grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Van Esler, Florissant, and Barb Helderman, Bonne Terre; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 2, at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Leslie, with the Rev. William Zastrow officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Kidney Foundation.
The family is being served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
